Austro-Hungarian fortress Arza
Arza Fortress was built during the Autro-Hungarian Monarchy. It is located on the very edge of the Luštica peninsula, right next to Mirište. Together with the fortifications of Mamula and Prevlaka, the entrance to the Bay of Kotor would be controlled - a fortified system. Ships that would pass without permission were shot with cannons from this fort. If a ship managed to pass, it would be met by other fortifications in the bay. A macadam road extends to the fort - less than 1 km. It can be reached on foot or by motorcycle.
These formidable structures were strategically positioned along the empire's borders, serving as bastions of defense against potential adversaries. The Austro-Hungarian fortresses were characterized by meticulous planning, robust construction, and a fusion of architectural styles reflective of the empire's diverse cultural influences.
One notable feature of these fortresses was their use of durable materials, often incorporating locally sourced stone and brick. The Austro-Hungarian Empire's commitment to the built quality of its fortresses was a reflection of its geopolitical challenges and ambitions.
